Miami man discovers bride is ‘his own granddaughter’; no plans to divorce

A 68-year old man from Miami’s Golden Beach neighborhood has reportedly had a ‘terrible shock’ after discovering his new bride, a 24-year old woman from Jacksonville, is actually his own biological granddaughter.

The couple, who have only been married for three months, made the discovery while looking through a photo album belonging to the 68-year old, who has requested that both he and his partner not be named by the media. In the album were photos of the 68-year old’s children from his first marriage, and one of them was the bride’s own father.

According to the 68-year old, he had become estranged from the children of that marriage after his spouse left him, taking the children away and moving to an undisclosed location. “All these years I was never able to find her,” he told reporters, claiming that he’d hired several private investigators who had all failed to locate his ex-wife and children.

In the intervening years, the man remarried and had several more children with a second wife, although that relationship ended with divorce in 2009 and had a serious impact on the man’s finances. However, in 2011 the 68-year old received an abrupt change of fortune after a Powerball syndicate he was involved in won a jackpot prize.

With this unexpected windfall, which totalled ‘several million dollars’, he was able to move from his small apartment into a waterfront property in Golden Beach. Life was good for a while, he says, but he told reporters being single again made him lonely and yearn for companionship. “The only people who wanted to see me were my ex-wife and kids, and they were always asking for money.”

In 2015, the man decided that it was time to try and find a new wife, and he set about searching for a suitable partner. He shared how he signed up with a local dating agency that specializes in matching older men with women. “They had a website with profiles of many attractive younger girls,” he said. As he browsed the images, he came across the profile of the 24-year old woman he would later marry, without knowing that she was his own granddaughter.

“I just felt something strange when I saw her photos,” he told reporters. “It was like a sense of deja vu, but at the time I couldn’t figure out why she seemed so familiar.” Through the agency, a date was arranged between the pair, with the 24-year old travelling down from Jacksonville to meet with him. “We just hit it off right from when she walked into the restaurant,” said the 68-year old.

Over the next few weeks, the pair would have several more dates, but at no time was the topic of family discussed in great detail. “At some point she mentioned that her family lived in Montgomery, but that she hadn’t been in contact with them for some years due to a dispute. She said she’d fooled around a bit in high school and ended up getting pregnant, and her father – who I later found out is actually my eldest son from my first marriage – kicked her out of the family home.”

The 24-year old woman ended up moving to Jacksonville, where she found work as an exotic dancer. “I’m not proud of working there,” she told journalists, “but I did what I had to do to raise my child as a single mom.” With mounting bills and wanting to provide the best for her child, the woman signed up to the dating agency where she would later meet her own grandfather.

“Every couple is different and special in their own ways”, said the bride.

As the dates between the pair continued, both reported a strong mutual attraction, and the 68-year old shared how he proposed to her on New Year’s Eve 2015 on the shore near his Golden Beach property. “I was thrilled when she accepted, and the day that we were married was the happiest of my life.”

However, the newlyweds’  wedding bliss was short-lived after they discovered they were actually related. “When I saw my father in that photo album, I just felt an overwhelming sense of despair,” said the woman. The 68-year old man also shared his deep regret upon learning that his new bride was his own granddaughter. “I felt so bad for her, because I know how she must have been feeling.”

Despite the shocking discovery, the couple has vowed not to divorce, and are committed to making their marriage a success. “If we’d never have found out, we would’ve lived our lives happily together, and us being related shouldn’t change that,” said the 68-year old man. “I’ve already had two failed marriages, and I’m determined not to have a third.” The 24-year old woman shared a similar optimistic view. “Every couple is different and special in their own ways. I feel our bond is so strong that even something like this is not enough to make us give up.”
