US Senate approves package to fight Zika virus

The US Senate has passed a funding of over US$1 billion to combat the Zika virus, which has spread through some parts of the country in recent months. Senators voted 72-26 to pass the bill.

There has been continued pressure on the Senate to find a way to fund research into preventing the Zika virus. A previous bill was vetoed by some senators over concerns funding would be redirected from other high-priority areas.
